The stylist I had was very nice and friendly- I had limited Japanese but that didn't stop her from trying to hold a conversation with me and she even recommended me food places. I was able to book through HotPepper (using my phone's Japanese to English translator) and got the service I was looking for. My hair looked and felt amazing afterwards.
No matter how damaged my hair is after bleaching, perming, etc., they always make it look perfect! The other day, I asked them to straighten my perm, then color it, and finally add extensions, which was a bit of an impossible task, but they fully explained the risks and accommodated my request. The last time I visited, there were no regular customers so I asked the manager, but he kept asking me weird questions like, "What's so good about him?" I was confused at the time, but after that the hairdresser I asked quit. And when he cut my hair, he didn't use any scissors at all, just feathers all the way through. Even after he was done, my hair looked weird, like Cleopatra or a member of the volleyball team, and I left feeling awful. I don't think it's professional to do a half-hearted job for customers who work with staff members you don't like. This is a salon run by an unprofessional manager.
I liked the bob hair and color from my last visit, so I booked a maintenance color and cut for my second visit. Both times, Tanaka was in charge. Before the treatment, I showed her a photo of the short haircut I wanted (a different short style from last time), and she confirmed it many times and agreed, so I felt relieved. However, after the color, she suddenly said that she wasn't good at that short style and that she might not be able to do it as I wanted, which honestly made me very worried 😂 It was my first time to encounter a hairdresser who wasn't good at short haircuts, and if she had told me at the beginning, I wouldn't have been so confused, and I wondered why she consulted me at this stage in the middle of the treatment. In the end, a female hairdresser named Kondo took over the cut, and I am very satisfied with the result, but it is true that my trust in her wavered along the way. If you want a short haircut, it may be safer to request a female hairdresser, Kondo, from the beginning. The result this time was not only thanks to Tanaka, but also to Kondo, so I think it would be good if Kondo's share was reflected in the treatment fee. Also, while I was waiting for Kondo, I caught a glimpse of Tanaka tending to a male customer who looked like a celebrity wearing sunglasses, and I was left wondering, "Is he really not good at short cuts...?" I don't know if he couldn't cut my hair because he was dealing with that VIP-like man, or if he really wasn't good at short cuts, but either way, I wish he had consulted me sincerely from the beginning.
