[Tokyo Suitengu Guide] God of safe delivery and childbearing
“Suitengu” is located in the Ningyocho area of Tokyo, which is full of downtown atmosphere.
It is a shrine known for praying for safe delivery and worshipping as a god of water, and it is so popular that worshipers from all over the country visit to receive benefits.
In this article, I will introduce the appeal of “Suitengu.”
What is “Suitengu”?
Nihonbashi Suitengu started in 1818 in the late Edo period.
Since ancient times, Suitengu has been loved by people as a shrine for children.
It has a long history as an important place to pray for safe delivery, especially for pregnant women.
Worshipers from all over Japan visit it as a power spot to pray for safe delivery.
What is the enshrined deity enshrined in “Suitengu”?
The four gods are enshrined in “Suitengu.”
・Tengochu Okami (Amenominakanushi no Okami)
The god that appeared at the highest point in the sky called Takamagahara at the beginning of the universe, where no one knows its shape, is Tengochu Okami.
It is the ancestor god of the Japanese gods, and represents vast and limitless divine virtues such as safe delivery and childbearing.
・Emperor Antoku (Antoku Tenno)
He was born as the prince of Emperor Takakura and Kenreimonin, and he ascended the throne as the 81st emperor at age three.
In the 4th year of Juei (1185), he was held by his grandmother, an eight-year-old nun in second place, and thrown into the sea by Dannoura.
・Kenreimon-in Temple (Kenreimonin)
He was born between father Kiyomori and mother Tokiko (second nun), and became the middle court of Emperor Takakura at age 18.
Kenreimon-in was the name of the hospital after Emperor Antoku was born, and after the Battle of Dannoura, he spent the rest of his life mourning the family members of the Heike family.
・Nun in second place (nun)
She is Taira Kiyomori's lawful wife, and her name is Tokiko.
After Kiyomori's death, she became a monk, and since she was ordained second class, she is called the second rank nun.
He escaped west from Kyoto with his grandson, Emperor Antoku, and entered the water at Dannoura.

Tips for visiting Suitengu
The best time to visit Suitengu is the cherry blossom season in spring and the season for fall foliage.
Special ceremonies and events are also held during New Year's and festivals, so I recommend it.
When visiting Shuitian Temple, it is important to wear proper clothing and manners.
Avoid wearing overly casual clothes, even in summer.
Please try to keep quiet in the precincts so as not to bother other worshipers.
It's a good idea to learn basic manners for visiting a shrine beforehand.
