If you want to visit Vietnam, I recommend Ho Chi Minh City.
Ho Chi Minh is the largest city in Vietnam, and there are many delicious restaurants and cute general stores, not to mention tourist spots.
You can enjoy a variety of themes, such as gourmet food and healing.
Today, I would like to introduce recommended tourist spots in Ho Chi Minh City, slightly cool spots, and delicious local food restaurants famous in Ho Chi Minh City.
Ho Chi Minh basic information
Ho Chi Minh City is a large economic city located in southern Vietnam.
During the Vietnam War, it was called “Sai Gon (Sai Gon)” as the capital of South Vietnam.
Saigon fell during the war, and the capital became Hanoi in the north, but now it has developed greatly as an economic city in Vietnam, and is very popular among tourists.
Ho Chi Minh Weather and Best Season
Ho Chi Minh City throughout the yearIt is very hot, and changes between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius.
It is also characteristic that it is extremely hot and humid.
The seasons are divided into rainy season and dry season,The dry season is from November to April, and the rainy season is from May to October.
Even during the rainy season, it doesn't rain all day long, and downpour called squalls often falls all at once in a short time.
Therefore, the best season is the dry season, but even if you visit Ho Chi Minh during the rainy season, you can still enjoy sightseeing.
However, it is better to have shoes and rain gear that can get wet, and it's hard to catch taxis when it rains, so be careful.
Recommended sightseeing spots in Ho Chi Minh
Saigon Central Post Office
The “Saigon Central Post Office” is a colonial building built during the French colonial period in the 19th century.
It is modeled after the Musée d'Orsay in France, and it features a very beautiful exterior.
It is also the largest post office in Ho Chi Minh City. Once inside, a large portrait of Ho Chi Minh is displayed.
In addition to accepting domestic and international mail, they also sell standard souvenirs for tourists, and you can buy miscellaneous goods and picture postcards typical of Vietnam.
I even wrote a message on a picture postcard I bought at Saigon Central Post Office and sent it to my family in Japan by international mail.
Saigon Cathedral
A large church right in front of Saigon Central Post Office. Many tourists gather, and there are so many people who take commemorative photos in front of the church.
This was also built during French rule and is a brick Catholic church.
There is a large statue of the Virgin Mary in front of the church.
As of 2024, the church is under construction, so most of the building is covered with sheets, so it's a bit disappointing to take pictures...
Ben Thanh Market
Ben Thanh Market is a famous tourist attraction located in the 1st district of central Ho Chi Minh City.
In addition to many food stalls serving local Vietnamese cuisine, there are also a wide variety of genres that handle fresh food such as fruits and meat, miscellaneous goods, and clothes.
There are many tourists who enjoy a meal and buy souvenirs at Ben Thanh Market.
When I walk through the market, people at the store call out and serve customers. Some of them take on the challenge of price negotiations with people at the store!
Reunification Palace
Located in the center of District 1, the Reunification Hall, which is majestic from the outside, is the former presidential residence during the South Vietnam administration during the Vietnam War.
The Vietnam War came to an end when the South Vietnam Liberation Army entered the Reunification Hall in 1975/4.
Tourists can also visit the inside of the Reunification Hall. It's very luxurious, and it's a sight to behold.
It is also characteristic that there are so many rooms, such as cabinet meeting rooms, banquet rooms, reception rooms, commander's rooms, and decryption rooms.
There is a large garden outside the building. It is an important building for learning about the history of Vietnam.
If you come to Ho Chi Minh City for sightseeing, I definitely want to visit it at least once.
Nguyen Hue Street (including Ho Chi Minh City People's Town Hall and Cafe Apartments)
Nguyen Hue Street in the center of Ho Chi Minh District 1 is a pedestrian paradise where the main street in the middle is beautifully paved, and there are many tourists who take a walk.
There is a statue of Ho Chi Minh at the end of Nguyen Hue Street, and it is recommended to take a commemorative photo with Ho Chi Minh City People's City Hall in the background.
Nguyen Hue Street has many cafés and restaurants at both the left and right ends where you can enjoy a meal.
Also, there are old apartments. They are called “cafe apartments” and “old apartments,” and almost all tenants in the 8-story building are composed of cafes.
There are also some restaurants and general stores. There are many cute, instagrammable shops nowadays, and it is a spot where many young people gather.
It's a dream place for cafe lovers. There is an elevator in the apartment, but it costs 3,000 dong, so be careful!
A slightly cool tourist area in Ho Chi Minh
Thao Dien in District 2 is an upscale area with lots of stylish shops!
When I took a taxi from District 1, the center of Ho Chi Minh City and traveled for about 20 minutes, the atmosphere changed slightlyThere is a district called Thao Dien (Thao Dien) in District 2.
It is also called a “European town,” and many foreigners, starting with Europe, live there.
Even in Ho Chi Minh, it's a pretty high-class area, and there are lots of buildings that look like French villas! It's a very developed, yet quiet place. You can walk around the Thao Dien area a little bit, and it's hard to walk a bit between shops by looking at the map! If you think about it, you can call a motorbike or taxi.
Even if you just take a walk, you can find a variety of wonderful shops, so in addition to the famous tourist spots in District 1, I also recommend visiting Thao Dien to explore the shops.
Here are two great restaurants we recommend in Thao Dien.
The white shines and is refreshing! Mediterranean restaurant “Lubu”
Of an upscale Mediterranean restaurantLubu.
You can enjoy a wide variety of Mediterranean cuisine.
Juicy, hearty meats such as Iberian pork and lamb are particularly delicious as main dishes.
Personally, I like visiting for breakfast, and the scenery with morning light shining into the pure white and beautiful interior is very refreshing and beautiful, perfect for an elegant breakfast time. Waffles, yogurt, churros, coffee, and smoothies are delicious.
Nice restaurant “The Deck” next to the Saigon River
The best location right in front of the Saigon RiverThe Deck.
I was so surprised that the river was right in front of me (laughs) The time spent enjoying a gorgeous meal while looking at the river by the window was so blissful.
There are plenty of seafood menus, including large shrimp. The Deck has such a great atmosphere that it was a filming location for a movie, so be sure to check it out!
Recommended local street food in Ho Chi Minh
There are many delicious local street food in Ho Chi Minh City.
What is particularly recommendedSouthern Vietnam's specialty “Banh Xeo (Banh Xeo)” and the Vietnamese sandwich “banh mi (banh mi)”That's it.
If you want to eat beinzeo, “Banh Xeo 46A”
Binseo, which can be compared to Vietnamese “okonomiyaki,” is wrapped with plump shrimp, juicy pork, and plenty of bean sprouts in a beautiful yellow brown dough made from rice flour.
They are eaten wrapped with vegetables, but Banh Xeo46A's bainseo is really delicious, and it's always very crowded because it's popular with tourists.
Be sure to try it once.
The volume of meat is perfect! “Nhu Lan” if it's a bain-mee that is very satisfying to eat
French bread sandwich bain-mee is a staple of Vietnamese local food.
In particular, Nhu Lan's bainmee has plenty of meat and is very satisfying to eat.
There are multiple stores, but the store in the center of District 1 is very large and easily accessible from tourist spots, so I recommend it.
At Nhu Lan, you can also enjoy classic Vietnamese dishes such as pho.
This time, I introduced basic information about Vietnam, recommended tourist spots, and cuisine.
Ho Chi Minh City is full of wonderful tourist spots, shops, and gourmet foods that I can't fully introduce here. It's sure to be a fun trip!
