The long-established Western-style restaurant “Mikawaya” in Ginza

As a Japanese-style Western food, “Western food” is now completely familiar.

As a starting point, there is a deep connection between Ginza and Western food, as the “pork cutlet” invented by Ginza Rengatei is always cited as an example.

Here, we will introduce 5 long-established Western restaurants in Ginza that have been loved for a long time since the Showa era.

It has been over 70 years since it opened in Ginza 4-chome.

It is a Western-style restaurant that continues to preserve traditional flavors that have been handed down since it was founded.

The first generation learned from “Sally Weil,” who is known for bringing authentic Western cuisine to Japan, and has faithfully inherited that teaching ever since.

Beef stew with an exquisite traditional demi-glace sauce and fried natural fresh prawns with a crispy batter are popular dishes that attract many repeat customers.

Other than that, you can enjoy a variety of menus, such as juicy hamburger steak, rich crab cream croquettes, and tan stew.

The most popular course is the 7,700 yen course with all 4 dishes limited to lunch.

You can choose between beef stew and hamburger steak as the main dish, and it comes with crab croquettes, corn potage, dessert, and even coffee.

Ginza's long-established Western-style restaurant “Rengatei”

A Western-style restaurant founded in 1895.

It is a long-established store that has devised standard Western food menus that are now completely familiar, such as omelets, cutlets, hashed beef, and fried shrimp.

Pork cutlets have a refreshing taste even though they are voluminous by cutting the fat from the meat.

Omurice is a classic style where ketchup rice is wrapped in an egg, and ketchup is used instead of demi-glace for the sauce.

You can enjoy the taste that hasn't changed even after nearly 130 years.

Although the store was rebuilt to coincide with the 1964 Olympics, some of the old bricks from the time it was founded remain on the wall, creating a retro atmosphere.

Reservations are not possible, so there are times when people line up before opening or at noon, but if you want to enjoy the original Western cuisine, don't miss it.

Ginza's long-established Western-style restaurant “Silver Tower”

Established in 1955, this is a historic beef stew specialty store.

It is also close to the Kabukiza Theatre, so it has been loved by many actors.

It is a store that was opened after renovating a 3-story storehouse built before the war, and retains strong vestiges of the Showa era.

We value flavors that haven't changed since our establishment, and the menu only includes stew and gratin.

There are 4 types of stew available: beef, tongue, and vegetables, all of which are simmered so soft that the meat can be cut with chopsticks.

By carefully removing the lye, it has a rich yet refreshing taste.

The ingredients also change suppliers depending on the season, so the chef's commitment shines through.

Kohikan Kojikusha

What you want to enjoy along with classical Western food is a Showa retro coffee shop.

We will introduce 3 coffee shops unique to Ginza, which have many long-established stores in Tokyo: “Coffee Shop American,” “Coffee House Kojikasha,” and “Tricolor Main Store.”

Ginza Coffee Shop “American”

food
Ginza Coffee Shop “American”

This coffee shop was founded in 1983 and is famous for its super voluminous sandwiches.

It is a good location just a 3-minute walk from Higashi-Ginza Station, and since it is close to Kabukiza, it has been loved by many famous people.

The signature menu is the “egg sandwich.”

It is an impactful looking dish with plenty of eggs sandwiched and topped with thick, soft bread that uses one loaf luxuriously.

Mayonnaise is relatively modest, so it's full of egg flavor.

We recommend eating it not only in the morning, but also at lunch.

Note, when eating inside the store, you must order a set of one food (sandwich) and one drink.

A 6-minute walk from Ginza Station. It is a long-established coffee shop founded in 1957 next to an overpass in Yurakucho.

The interior of the store, decorated with cute antique furnishings, has remained almost unchanged since its inception, and is full of extraordinary feeling.

The slightly dim lighting enhances the mood of a pure Showa coffee shop.

The signature menu is the “Ganso Pizza Toast Set.”

As the name suggests, it is a menu known as the origin of pizza toast, and it is still popular, with 1 in 2 visitors ordering it.

The harmony of the 3.5-centimeter dough that is easy to eat, the well-balanced amount of ingredients, and the cheese that melts to the edge is irresistible.

Please enjoy this flavor that hasn't changed for 60 years.

The store is open all year round until 23:00 midnight, so it's easy to use ◎

A long-established coffee shop founded in 1936.

It is a two-story building with stylish brick walls, and the entrance is an old-fashioned revolving door.

The interior is also classical, and it has a profound feeling like a Parisian cafe.

In addition to its stylish atmosphere, the fact that you can enjoy authentic coffee made by hand dripping using flannel is a popular point.

Cafe au lait is especially recommended, and the clerk will pour coffee and milk right in front of you.

The food menu also has a full lineup, such as handmade cakes, eclairs, apple pies, and special sandwiches from our own workshop.
